The Historical Society of Upper St. Clair (HSUSC) started in 1988 as a group of community residents who were interested in preserving and sharing the appreciation of local Upper St. Clair history. For years, HSUSC held their meetings at the Upper St. Clair Library on McLaughlin Run Road where they were provided with archive storage space.

Most of the programs were based around the HSUSC members telling about the history of their families and their way of live in the Upper St. Clair area. The Society also toured many of the oldest homes that were known to the area.
In 2001, the Historical Society of Upper St. Clair made their official home base at the Gilfillan Farm on Orr Road. The farm and it's land was donated to the organization by Margaret Gilfillan upon her death.

It was Margaret's wish that the Historical Society expand their efforts of historical preservation by using the farm as a model working farm that was intended to educate the public about traditional farm life in Pennsylvania. She also wanted the property to be utilized as a "historical, cultural, or educational center and landmark." With the acquisition of Gilfillan Farm, the programming offered by HSUSC has evolved over the years to best serve the community.
The Historical Society of Upper St. Clair is a 501(c)3 Pennsylvania non-profit corporation that is registered with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of State's Bureau of Charitable Organizations, which can be contacted toll free at 1 (800) 732-0999.
